Content is the king. Content is the king. You can understand why I wrote this twice. If your content is not good, it won't make a good photograph, however strong it may be technically. So don't release the shutter without a reason.
How you present the content. What you show and what you don't. Everything exists there but when you take a picture or I should say when you take a good picture you only show what you want to show. All that is visible does not make for a good photograph. only include what is relevant and adds to what you wish to convey.
While talking about Faith for a series of Photographs shot for Max Hospitals in and around Delhi NCR, I did not want the attention to be diverted to unwanted elements around and tried to establish the connection that exists between god and devotee. No filters or photoshop was used to create the seascape during sunset at Kata Beach in Phuket Bangkok. The colours were actually so deep and saturated. the photograph of this dry leaf was shot in such a manner so as to show the transparency and it's own reflection on the surface below.

So next time when you like a particular photograph, before you ask "what equipment did you use? " Try to explore and discuss why and how it was shot. Try to understand the thought process of the photographer and not just the equipment. The Photography gear is important but the skills involved in using it are far more significant.
